I was fiddling around with a spare PC today (an old Socket 775) when I discovered that it was possible to upgrade the CPU from it's current lowly E7300 to a Quad Core Q9650. At this point I started wondering the prices of these old quad core processors and started to take a look on eBay.
I found that for around €45 I could buy the fastest quad core processor that my motherboard would take but I also found something a little more interesting! The possibility of running a modified Intel Xeon X5400 (3.0GHz / 1333MHz FSB) for a significantly lower price of €32.
The processor was ordered and I'm awaiting delivery, will do another post once it's arrived, however I digress.
Ordering this processor I began to wonder could I make this spare PC a reasonable gaming rig? Currently this PC had a HD4770 graphics card installed (Average G3D Mark 1040). So I decided to look on eBay for a acceptable GPU Graphics card under €50..
